Old Tools - new lease on life
Better for the environment and our bottom line.
Our company now attempt repairs and fixes on all tools used in our servicing work before replacing them.
When we started our work in 2020, we bought very inexpensive tools which we were able to replace whenever they degraded or broke. However prices are steeper now so we had to develop newer habits. Now we remagnetise screwdrivers, replace burnt fuses and wiring in our steam guns, tape our service pouches and so on.
We also noticed a quality degradation in some of our tools over the years. Newer water pumps of the same brand are weaker and fail faster than the older ones we had. We are now slowly transitioning to better quality tools in the hopes that they last longer with careful use and timely repair work.
We now practice the same policy for our tools as for customer AC’s, repair whenever possible, replacement only when necessary.
HEAT WAVE+CNY+RAYA
This year’s heatwave arrived earlier than expected, together with CNY and Raya . Dirty ACs cool less efficiently, consume more electricity and are more prone to leaking — often at the worst possible time when guests arrive.
To avoid delays during the shortened Ramadhan working month, we are maintaining normal operating hours to ensure timely service.
The nature of our work requires us to be physically able and fit into sometimes very confined spaces. We do not know where our work will take us but we know that if we are out of shape, we would do a poor job wherever we go.
The title of “most weight lost” belongs to Daniel who joined our company at over 120KG. However due to his persistence, determination and partly due to bullying by his peers, he dropped down to 80KG+ after six months of intense gym sessions on top of our company’s physically demanding work.
He is a living breathing example of how AC service work can improve your health and dating prospects.
WHY OUR BOYS ARE MOSTLY FIT
Willis Carrier invented the first air conditioner in 1902 to control the humidity in a printing company. The resulting cool, dry air had a noticeable side effect of increasing worker productivity. The technology was subsequently developed for residential homes and now is a core part of life in hot humid South East Asia.
“A turning point in my life in terms of comfort and efficiency came in 1954, when Choo and I installed a one-horse-power air-conditioner in the bedroom. Thereafter, we never lost sleep because of the humid heat.”
- excerpt from Lee Kuan Yew’s memoir : The Singapore Story.
HOW ACs EVOLVED AND CAME TO SOUTH EAST ASIA
AC SAFARI ENDS IN SUCCESS
Our teams went on a safari recently to locate elusive outdoor units in a beautiful house. Neither the tenants nor the owners knew where the outdoor units were located.
After half a day of climbing, scouting and monkeying about, they found and labelled all units. Unfortunately the problem AC of the day could not be repaired and had to be replaced.
Sunburnt but satisified, our teams celebrated with office cooked nasi goreng kampung.
